Domaine Camin Larredya - Part d'Avant 2018
The history of the Pyrenean vineyard begins in the 14th century. In 1900, Jean Grussaute bought the vineyard and the farm "Larredya" to satisfy his dream of returning to the land, after having worked as an innkeeper-coach driver. In the middle of the 19th century, François and Sophie Grussaute turned to cattle breeding and the cultivation of fruit trees.
It was not until 1970 that Jean and Jany Grussaute began to rebuild the vineyard with terraced plantations of Gros and Petit Manseng, the grapes will be delivered partly to the cooperative. In 1988, Jean-Marc, their son, arrived on the vineyard after having studied viticulture and oenology. He decides to withdraw the cooperative and starts a new plantation program. Today, the family owns 9.5 hectares of vines certified organic farming, of which 4 hectares are cultivated in terraces planted with Gros Manseng, Petit Manseng, Petit Courbu and Camaralet.
Part Davant comes from vines located east of the vineyard. It is a blend of Gros Manseng (50%), Petit Manseng (35%) and Petit Courbu (15%) whose average age varies between 10 and 80 years. The vinification begins with a destem. Two-thirds of the juice is collected by direct pressing and one-third undergoes skin maceration for 48 to 72 hours. The fermentation is carried out with native yeasts in 225-litres barrels (5% new) and in tuns of 1,200 to 2,500 litres. The wine is then aged on its lees for 6 months.
