LE SEUIL DE MAZEYRES 2014
Château Mazeyres is located in the appellation of Pomerol, in the wine region of Bordeaux. It was acquired in the early 20th century by the Querre family, who began producing a fine, fruity wine designed for French restaurant customers. In 1988, the family decided to sell the entire estate to Caisse de Retraite de la Société Générale which then passed it on to Sogecap (the life insurance branch of the same banking institution) in 2010. In 1992, viticultural engineer and oenologist Alain Moueix took over the running of Château Mazeyres. As the fourth generation of a well-regarded family of Libourne winegrowers and merchants, he offered the chateau his commitment, knowledge and expertise. The vineyard area was significantly increased and thought was put into approaches to winegrowing, winemaking and maturation, resulting in the facilities being modernised. The acquisition of four further hectares at the heart of the Pomerol appellation in 2010 took the estate’s total area to 25.5 hectares, cultivated using biodynamics since 2012 and certified since 2018.
Le Seuil de Mazeyres is the Château's second wine. The 2014 is a blend of Merlot (72%), Cabernet Franc (22%) and Petit Verdot (6%) harvested by hand in crates. The grapes are carefully sorted when they arrive at the cellar. Fermentation is carried out in concrete or stainless steel vats depending on the terroir, the age of the vines and the grape variety. The wine is aged in new barrels (25%) and in barrels of one wine or more (75%).
