PODERI ALDO CONTERNO - Barolo Bussia Cicala 2010
Poderi Aldo Conterno is located in Monteforte d’Alba, in the Piedmont, Italy. Aldo Conterno has been labelled a Barolo modernist, and this was often stated in comparison with his brother Giovanni of the staunchly old-school Giacomo Conterno estate. Winemaking combines the modern and traditional with the Barolo wines aged at length in large Slavonian oak casks and French barriques are also used in the range. Aldo Conterno died in 2012 and the estate is now run by his three sons: Franco, Stefano and Giacomo. The estate, which vinifies exclusively its own grapes, consists of 25 hectares of vineyard. The Cru vineyards Romirasco, Cicala and Colonnello located in Bussia of Monforte d’Alba, portray the real expression of the Langa terroir.
The Barolo Bussia Cicala is a blend of Nebbiolo, Michet and Lampia. The harvest is manual, with grape selection in the vineyard of Cicala. The vatting period lasts 30 days and the wine, after several decanting, is transferred to oak casks where it is aged and refined.
For Piedmont, the 2010 vintage was fantastic.
