A wine collector, known for outstanding vertical tastings, and having struggled with difficulties in extracting some older and fragile corks, developed and produced the Durand. The Durand is a fully patented, and surprisingly simple, two part device that permits the user to successfully remove older and fragile wine bottle corks whole and intact. The Durand has been tested and used with great success by numerous wine lovers, collectors, and local and internationally known sommeliers. It has extracted the cork … completely … each and every time. Before the Durand, most corks, old and new, were removed from wine bottles in two or three main ways, with mixed results. Most were removed using corkscrews of various kinds, often breaking, damaging, and/or leaving portions of the cork to be separately removed. Some were removed using a two bladed ah-so device that occasionally pushed an older cork down into the bottle to be fished out by other devices. Other devices, such as a hollow needle inserted through the cork to blow the cork out often pushed a fragile cork into the bottle and/or put unwanted pressure on the bottle contents. The Durand removes old and fragile corks without those unwanted outcomes. Instructions for use are printed on the inside of the reusable wrapper that encloses the cork presentation box of the Durand

The Durand is a patented corkscrew that is exceptionally effective at removing fragile corks from old wines . It has been tested repeatedly on the most demanding corks and performs consistently and flawlessly.

The Durand was designed by Mark Taylor, a wine collector who encountered difficulties when opening fine old wines. In 2007, he founded Wining Taylors LLC, based in Atlanta in the United States. The name pays homage to Yves Durand, a world-renowned sommelier and mentor to Mark Taylor.
