Château PONTET-CANET 1984
Pauillac

Since its creation at the beginning of the 17th century, Château Pontet-Canet has known only three families of owners. The estate was in fact created by Jean-François de Pontet, the king's grand squire who became governor of Médoc. A few years later, his descendants enlarge the vineyard with plots from Lieu-dit Canet. Listed in 1855, the property was bought in 1865 by Hermann Cruse, a famous Bordeaux merchant, who promoted it throughout the world. The property has belonged to the Tesseron family since 1975. Guy Tesseron carried out a major modernization of the equipment, but also of the vinification techniques. Today his sons Alfred and Gérard Tesseron manage the estate with Jean-Michel Comme, the manager. In the heart of Pauillac, the 80 hectares of the vineyard, neighboring Mouton Rothschild, are located on a hill of Garonne gravel and sand. The interventions are reduced to their simplest expression, and the harvest, manual, is carried out using small capacity crates, directly poured onto the sorting tables and the new winery, inaugurated in 2005, is located under these tables. The grapes are therefore vinified by gravity, without excessive handling liable to alter them.
