Château LAGRANGE 1981 Saint-Julien

The lands on which Château Lagrange was founded are mentioned as early as the 13th century and wine production, although an ancillary activity of the estate, began in the Middle Ages. The reputation of the cru was established in the 18th century by the families of Brane and Arbouet, succeeded by Jean Valère Cabarrus, who had the Tuscan Tower characteristic of the estate built in 1820. In 1842, Château Lagrange was bought from John Lewis Brown by Count Tanneguy Duchâtel. The one who was then Minister of the Interior to Louis-Philippe fully invested in the development of his property in Saint-Julien, modernizing the facilities and extending the vineyard. Under his leadership, Château Lagrange was classified third cru during the Médoc classification in 1855, for the constant quality of its wines. After the death of Count Duchâtel, the property collapsed. The Cendoya family, owners of the cru from 1925, gradually sold plots of the vineyard to neighboring farms and the Lagrange wine saw its prestige decline. Château Lagrange is now under the Japanese flag.
