Château GISCOURS 1969

Among the successive owners since the 15th century, the most notable is perhaps the Count de Pescatore, banker, who acquired the château in 1845 and entrusted the management of it to Pierre Skawinski, a talented winegrower who left a lasting mark on the 19th century. . It was also the Count of Pescatore who built the castle as we know it today. After further changes of owners, the reputation of the wine, classified 3rd grand cru in 1855, gradually deteriorated. The estate was partly reborn in 1954 with its purchase by Pierre Tari, an important winegrower from Algeria. In turn in difficulty, he ceded in 1995 part of his shares and the management to a Dutch businessman, Eric Albada Jelgersma.

He then undertook a renovation of the property and the equipment. He experienced great difficulties in 1998 with the discovery of fraud in the second wine, but overall the team set up then, now led by Alexander Van Beek and technically by Didier Forêt, was a great success with progress. consistent and widely recognized. The 80 ha vineyard, located to the south-east of Margaux and with a slightly sandy gravel soil, is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (60%) and Merlot (32%), the rest being divided between Cabernet-Franc and petit-verdot. About 25% of the vines are over 40 years old. The second wine, "La Sirène de Giscours", represents about a third of the total production.
