Château LA TOUR DE MONS 1995
Château La Tour de Mons is located in Soussans, in the Margaux appellation in the Bordeaux wine region. Its history dates back to 1098 but was successful under the ownership of Pierre de Mons in 1623. After being sold to Crédit Agricole Grands Crus, it is today the Perrodo family (owner of Château Labégorce Margaux and Marquis d'Alesme ) who owns the domain. It is run by Marjolaine Maurice de Coninck , general manager and oenologist, assisted by the advice of oenologist Claude Gros. The vineyard covers 58 hectares in one piece. The average age of the vines is 40 years. In recent years, a major renovation program has been implemented: construction of a new wine cellar and an air-conditioned storage cellar, a major drainage program, reasoned management of the vineyard with a view to a sustainable ecological balance.
Château La Tour de Mons is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc . The aging lasts 12 months in French oak barrels , 30% of which are new. For Bordeaux, the 1995 vintage is widely recognized as an excellent year . Winter and spring were mild, although the rain in the spring was crucial in rebalancing the water table, and flowering was uninterrupted. The summer was so hot and dry that it broke records. The harvest, which took place in dry and sunny conditions, was abundant and healthy.
