Château Trotanoy is located in Pomerol, on the right bank of Bordeaux. Purchased by Jean-Pierre Moueix in 1953, Château Trotanoy has been considered one of the premier crus of Pomerol since the end of the eighteenth century. The soil of Château Trotanoy is a very dense mixture of clay and gravel which tends to solidify as it dries out after rain to an almost concrete-like hardness, hence the name “Trotanoy,” or, in other words, “too wearisome” to cultivate. The vineyard spreads over 7.20 hectares. Since 2009, a selection of gravel-based parcels on the north-eastern part of the estate have been dedicated to Espérance de Trotanoy, which is produced in limited quantities and only in certain years.

Château Trotanoy is a blend of Merlot (90%) and Cabernet Franc (10%), whose average age of the vines are 35 years, cultivated sustainably. After the manual harvest, the grapes are sorted by hand and with optical sorting. The vinification is carried out in concrete and stainless steel vats, with gentle maceration and extraction techniques. Ageing lasts 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels, 50% of which are new. The 2004 vintage is a great vintage in Pomerol.
