BLACK TOT - Master Blender's Reserve - Edition 2022 - 54.50%
Elixir Distillers was established as Specialty Drinks in 1999 by brothers Sukhinder and Raj Singh , who also launched the Whiskey Exchange retail website the same year. The company changed its name to Elixir Distillers in 2017. Oliver Chilton handles day-to-day business decisions at Elixir Distillers, as well as all barrel buying, selection, blending and bottling for all the Elixir Distillers releases, including Black Tot . As soon as the first fleets set sail, the Royal Navy carried alcohol on its ships for crew and trade. The water was impure and not suitable for long journeys in wooden barrels, and since wine and beer did not keep well and took up space, spirits were the perfect alternative. In 1970 it was voted in Parliament to stop the rum ration given fears surrounding the more complex technology then in service with the navy. A funeral was held for "the day the rum died" and July 31, 1970 became known forever as Black Tot Day . The remaining rum was put into 'pitchers' and saved for special occasions like the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
This 2022 edition of Master Blender's Reserve is a blend of the previous Master Blender's Reserve which has aged in Sherry casks since Black Tot Day, as well as rums from Guyana, Jamaica, Trindad and Barbados.
