After having been successively the property of the Villeneuve (1576-1892) and Dubos (1892- 1980) families, in 1981 Château Cantemerle joined the land holdings of the powerful mutual insurance companies for building and public works (SMABTP). A complete renovation of the facilities has therefore enabled the estate to regain its place among the grands crus of the Haut-Médoc appellation. Here, human intervention and the use of noble materials have been privileged. At harvest time, the grapes are carefully harvested and sorted by hand. The production of each plot is vinified separately in large oak vats favoring a slow and gentle extraction of tannins. The wines are then aged in barrels for twelve months, then slightly clarified before being bottled at the château.
