Cru Classé de Graves since 1953, Château Latour-Martillac owes its name to the tower adorning its main courtyard, a vestige of a fort built in Martillac in the 12th century by the ancestors of the famous wine-maker philosopher Montesquieu. Located on an exceptional ridge of Pyrenean gravel, this estate attracted the attention of Édouard Kressmann, trader in Bordeaux since 1871, in particular for the quality of his white wines. His eldest son, Alfred, bought the estate in 1930, and developed the red vineyard, and with his son, Jean, designed the current label, crossed out with gold and sand, which has been used on the bottles since 1934. Today, Tristan and Loïc Kressmann, the last two sons of Jean Kressmann, helped by the best wine consultants from Bordeaux, continue the family tradition to obtain the quintessence of this authentic gravel terroir. By their elegant structure and their harmony, the red wines of Latour-Martillac, as well as the whites, also classified, are recognized as sure values of the Pessac-Léognan appellation.
