NIKKA - From the barrel - 51.40% Founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, considered the father of Japanese whisky, Nikka Whisky produces a wide and diverse range of whiskies at its two distilleries located in northern Japan: Yoichi and Miyagikyo. Renowned for both its two single malts and its blends of great precision and unparalleled complexity, Nikka was born from a true passion for whisky, which Taketsuru discovered in Scotland. It was also there that he met his wife Rita, who would inspire and support him in realizing his dream of producing an authentic whisky in Japan. Made from a blend of Miyagikyo and Yoichi single malts and a single grain whisky, NIKKA FROM THE BARREL embodies the expertise of the in-house master blenders. Intense, round and generous, this ambitious blend with a high alcohol content, powerful and controlled, is recognized for its originality. It dares. It challenges and seduces. It imposes itself by its style. Color: Old gold with golden highlights. Nose: Fine, complex. Floral (lilac), fruity (apricot). Notes of spices (clove) and leather. Palate: Powerful, firm. Spicy (pepper). Woody (oak). Evolves into ripe fruits (peach), caramelized apple and flowers (honeysuckle). Finish: Long. Marine notes. Ripe fruits (plum, peach) on a background of woody-vanilla notes. Profile: Round and generous.

Nikka Whisky Distilling Company is located in Japan, and was created by Masataka Taketsuru, considered as the father of Japanese Whisky. He was the son of a sake brewer, and after studying chemistry at university he trained at several Scottish distilleries before returning to Japan in 1920 with his Scottish wife, Rita. After working for the company that would become Suntory (Kotobukiya Limited) and making the first Japanese whisky, he struck out on his own, setting up the Yoichi distillery and the Nikka parent company. The company also owns separate distilleries for making Shochu (spirit made by distilling a wide variety of base ingredients, the main ones being rice, barley and sweet potato) and facilities for making cider brandy and apple wine. In 2001, Nikka was purchased by Asahi Breweries.

Nikka From The Barrel is a blended whisky which was released in 1985. The development of this expression started with an aim to deliver full flavours and richness of whisky like "from the barrel". It is created by blending more than 100 different batches of malt and grain whiskies. After blending, the whisky is filled into used barrels and matured for another few months.
