Located in the heart of the Certan plateau, on plots that are sometimes gravelly, sometimes clayey, Vieux Château Certan manages to ripen its Cabernets brilliantly. It is moreover the latter which give it a unique character, while sometimes penalizing it during the early tastings - the wine not having the immediate fleshiness of some of its neighbors. However, it does not lose weight during aging and even gains in definition after five years. It then ages like a great Médoc, retaining a fabulous freshness. Since 2011, Guillaume Thienpont, oenologist and engineer, joined his father Alexandre to manage the family property. The cru shows exceptional regularity and recent vintages have enabled it to obtain a third star.
