Benedictine DOM - 1970's

Old bottle of the famous Benedictine liqueur from the 1970s. The bottle was kept in a Bordeaux cellar.

DOM Benedictine is one of those ancestral secret recipes invented by French monks. Made in Fécamp, Normandy, this amber-yellow plant liqueur is said to have medicinal properties. In 1863, a merchant from the town of Fécamp found this forgotten recipe and named it in homage to the Benedictine monks with their motto: Deo Optimo Maximo - “God absolutely good, absolutely great”.

He even had a Palace built to house the distillery in which the liquor is still produced today. The recipe includes four basic preparations using 27 different herbs, infused in alcohol and then distilled. The result, called "spirit", is then aged in oak barrels and colored with saffron. Lemon balm, juniper and angelica are the most striking aromas.
