Château RAUZAN-GASSIES 1918 - 100 years this year!
Château Rauzan-Gassies benefits from the double inheritance of the noble house of Gassies, versed in the arms and on the lands of which it was founded, and of the family of Rauzan. The Rauzan wine estate was created in 1661 by Pierre de Rauzan, who was not a novice in the art of wine making since he was before that manager of the Margaux and Latour châteaux.
The Rauzan estate, also at the origin of the two "Pichons", kept its unity until the end of the 18th century and its separation between the future Château Rauzan-Gassies and Château Rauzan-Ségla. Château Rauzan-Gassies (the name has been in effect since 1839) was consecrated second classified growth in 1855, whose wine already featured prominently in the old parish classifications of Margaux and Cantenac. After the owners' waltz which characterized the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, the estate was bought in 1946 by Paul Quié, wine broker and recent buyer of Château Bel-Orme Tronquoy Lalande and Château Croizet-Bages. Since then, Château Rauzan-Gassies has passed into the hands of his son and grandchildren.
