Réserve du Général (2nd wines from ch. Palmer) 1994 Margaux
Réserve du Général (Château Palmer) former second wine (see Alter Ego)
Palmer's second wine, Alter Ego, was created in 1998 from the General's Reserve. The shareholders of the château wanted to change the name to create Alter Ego from the Médoc trilogy: cabernet sauvignon and merlot in equal parts, supplemented by a touch of petit verdot.
The General's Reserve Let us recall, for a long time the château's second wine was created in honor of Charles Palmer, Major General in the British army, who in 1814 had acquired from the de Gascq family the estate to which he left his name.
In the 1830s, it extended over 163 ha, including 82 ha of vineyard. But Charles Palmer was very successful and was forced in 1843 to sell his property for financial reasons. Despite this personal failure, Palmer will remain Palmer's man for posterity. Two Bordeaux families have owned the château since 1938.
