Chateau POUJEAUX 2001
Château Poujeaux is an estate located in the Moulis-en-Médoc sub-appellation in Haut-Médoc, on the left bank of the Gironde in Bordeaux . The castle belongs to the Cuvelier family . Located in the Haut-Médoc, Château Poujeaux favors Cabernet Sauvignon in the production of its three wines: the grand vin is mainly made from Cabernet Sauvignon, blended with Merlot and smaller quantities of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc .
In the now defunct 2003 Cru Bourgeois classification, Château Poujeaux was awarded Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel status - the highest rating for a Médoc chateau not included in the 1855 classification. In 2010, a heavily revised Cru Bourgeois label was awarded. reintroduced which did not establish a tiered system and as a result Château Poujeaux and five other houses which had been named Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel formed their own group called Les Exceptionnels outside of the new classification.
Château Poujeaux 2001 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (53%), Merlot (39%), Petit Verdot (5%) and Cabernet Franc (3%) . Fermentation lasts 20 to 25 days in concrete and stainless steel vats with regular pumping over. The wine is aged for 12 months in barrels , 50% of which are new.
