Case Basse di Gianfranco Soldera 2020
Case Basse di Gianfranco Soldera is located in Montalcino, Tuscany . The estate was founded in 1972 by Gianfranco and Graziella Soldera . Following Gianfranco Soldera's death in February 2019, the family (Graziella, Monica and Paolo, Mauro and Valeria) continues to manage the estate. The vineyard covers 23 hectares, at an altitude of 320 meters. The terroir of Case Basse is of volcanic origin, rich in minerals and not very fertile. The estate has extensive rose gardens containing more than 1,500 species, and woodlands to promote biodiversity. Viticulture practices are modern and geared towards limiting yields, with short pruning in winter, green pruning in summer and thinning of the grapes to promote ripening.
Case Basse Soldera is made from hand-picked Sangiovese . After careful sorting, alcoholic fermentation begins spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in truncated wooden vats of over 100 hectolitres. The wine is aged for a long time in large Slavonian oak barrels . It is aged for a minimum of 6 additional months in the bottle .
Grape variety: 100% Sangiovese
"A Sangiovese vibrant with emotion, both pure and complex, with intense aromas of black cherry, dried herbs and undergrowth. The palate is full-bodied and structured, with silky tannins and a mineral tension that is a sign of its volcanic terroir."
