Domaine Jean Michel GERIN - Côte Rôtie - La Landonne 2023
Domaine Jean-Michel Gerin is located on the Côte Rôtie , in the village of Ampuis , in the northern Rhône Valley. Jean-Michel Gerin acquired his first vineyard plot in Côte Rôtie in 1983. Four years later, he released his first vintage, closely followed by his first single-vineyard wine: Les Grandes Places, in 1988 and La Landonne in 1996. The estate's most recent production came in 2009 with the production of La Viallière from a vineyard planted in 2003 in Côte Rôtie. Today, the estate covers nearly 20 hectares and the two sons of the family, Michaël and Alexis, participate in the viticulture. It was in 2020 that the decision was made to launch the conversion to organic farming, certification successful in 2023.
Among the most legendary terroirs of the Northern Rhône Valley, La Landonne embodies the power and nobility of Syrah. Domaine Jean-Michel Gérin produces an exceptional wine from old vines carefully cultivated on the steep granite slopes of Côte-Rôtie.
The 2023 vintage reveals remarkable depth and intensity. The nose seduces with intense aromas of blackberry , blackcurrant and blueberry , underlined by smoky, spicy and licorice notes. The palate, ample and structured, reveals an impressive concentration , carried by dense but very fine tannins. The mineral freshness of the terroir balances this richness and prolongs the tasting with a long, vibrant and racy finish. Wow! Very great wine!
A wine for long aging , which can be appreciated in its youth for its brilliance, but which will reach its full complexity after several years in the cellar. The Landonne 2023 is already establishing itself as an iconic cuvée, intended for demanding amateurs and collectors of great Côte-Rôtie wines.
