Case Basse di Gianfranco Soldera - 100% Sangiovese 2021

Case Basse di Gianfranco Soldera is one of those estates whose name alone is enough to elevate a wine to another dimension. Located in Montalcino, in the southwest of Tuscany, the estate was born in the early 1970s when Gianfranco and Graziella Soldera discovered Case Basse and planted their first Sangiovese vines there. Since then, this property has become a true legend for enthusiasts, collectors, and great cellars worldwide. Soldera does not simply produce a great Italian wine, but one of the purest, most radical, and sought-after expressions of Sangiovese. Very rare to find today, given the confidential allocations and immense global demand, this bottle is among those wines that can legitimately be placed among the greatest in the world. The estate works within a unique ecosystem, rich in biodiversity, with extreme care given to each vine, cluster, and berry. For a cellar to offer Soldera 2021 is almost an event, as this wine embodies rarity, exacting standards, and emotion.

The Toscana IGP cuvée Soldera Case Basse 100% Sangiovese 2021 is made exclusively from Sangiovese grapes from the estate's vineyards. The 2021 vintage benefited from a dry and cool cycle, with a wet winter, an overall cool spring, and a summer marked by balanced temperatures and low rainfall. This slow maturation allowed for a remarkably precise Sangiovese, with just the right ripeness and great homogeneity of the grapes. Harvest began on September 8, after numerous organoleptic, microbiological, and analytical checks carried out directly on the grapes. In the cellar, fermentation occurs completely spontaneously, in large Slavonian oak vats, without artificial yeasts or physical temperature control. The wine then undergoes a long aging in large Slavonian barrels, in an underground cellar designed to naturally preserve the wine's balance and stability. Bottling is done without fining or filtration, after extremely rigorous monitoring, with the aim of preserving all the richness, vibrancy, and depth of the Sangiovese.

In the glass, Soldera Case Basse 2021 presents itself as a wine of rare class, both intensely deep and with an almost airy transparency. The nose evokes pure cherry, Morello cherry, old rose, blood orange, fine spices, blond tobacco, and noble herbs of the Tuscan countryside. The palate impresses with its balance, featuring a long, vibrant texture perfectly held by the natural acidity of Sangiovese and exceptionally fine tannins. Nothing is demonstrative; everything lies in precision, length, energy, and this unique ability to combine inner power and absolute elegance. The finish seems to last a long time, between red fruit, floral notes, mineral depth, balsamic nuances, and a saline sensation. It is a wine of very great aging potential, intended for rare moments, grand tables, and enthusiasts capable of waiting for time to reveal all its complexity. It will ideally accompany exceptional cuisine, such as veal chop with morels, roasted lamb, fresh truffle pasta, pigeon, noble game, or an aged Tuscan pecorino.
