Château MOUTON ROTHSCHILD 2015
In Pauillac, Château Mouton Rothschild occupies one of the most emblematic terroirs of Médoc, on deep gravelly slopes that allow the Cabernet Sauvignon to fully express structure, freshness, and depth. A Premier Grand Cru Classé since its historic promotion in 1973, the estate belongs to the Rothschild family and has combined for several generations viticultural rigor, precise vinifications, and a strong cultural identity. Each vintage is notably adorned with a label entrusted to an artist, a tradition inseparable from the château's history. The vineyard rests on poor and very well-drained gravel soils, complemented by more clayey horizons that play a precious role in water regulation. The 2015 vintage benefits from a particularly favorable season in Bordeaux, with fully ripe Cabernets and Merlots, supported by beautiful freshness. In Pauillac, this year produces generous but balanced wines, with ripe tannins and great aromatic clarity. Mouton Rothschild 2015 thus stands out by its ample body, refined texture, and an already expressive profile while retaining significant aging potential.
The 2015 blend consists of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc. The Cabernet Sauvignon builds the backbone of the wine with notes of blackcurrant, graphite, cedar, and fine spices, while the Merlot adds more flesh and velvety texture to the mid-palate. The Cabernet Franc plays a more discreet role but contributes to the freshness and aromatic finesse of the whole. The grapes are vinified separately according to their parcel origin before the final blend composition. Aging in French oak barrels then accompanies the material and allows the tannins to gradually integrate without masking the fruit's depth. The generous character of 2015 brings the wine a more immediate roundness than in some stricter vintages, but the structure remains perfectly defined. Still young, the wine has enough density and freshness to evolve harmoniously over several decades.
The color shows a deep garnet with still intense ruby reflections. The nose develops aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, and black plum, accompanied by cedar, graphite, violet, and licorice. With aeration, cocoa, blond tobacco, fine spices, and a slight smoky nuance gradually appear. The palate is ample and silky, with ripe and precise tannins that provide depth without harshness. The black fruit remains generous, but persistent freshness maintains remarkable tension and prolongs the tasting. The finish is long, complex, and very Pauillac-like, with blackcurrant, graphite, cedar, and spices. Château Mouton Rothschild 2015 will accompany a roasted rack of lamb, a beef fillet with porcini mushrooms, pigeon, royal hare, or refined cuisine featuring black truffle.
