Clos de la Barthassade - Pur C 2025
Clos de la Barthassade is located in Aniane, in the heart of Languedoc, in the cool and stony environment of the Terrasses du Larzac. Created by Hélène and Guillaume Baron, the estate quickly established itself as a reference for lovers of precise, digestible Mediterranean wines deeply connected to their terroir. The vineyard, worked organically, rests on several vine plots located notably around Montpeyroux, Jonquières, and Saint-Saturnin. The limestone scree terrace soils bring a welcome freshness to the wines, particularly important in this sunny region. The estate complements this approach with some biodynamic-inspired practices, with most work done manually to respect the vine and soil life. In this context, Pur C 2025 highlights a pure and direct reading of Cinsault, a grape variety often used in blends but rarely valued alone with such attention. This red cuvée expresses a Languedoc of finesse, fruit, and movement, far from heavy or excessively extracted Mediterranean wines.
The Pur C 2025 cuvée is made from 100% Cinsault, under the IGP Pays d’Hérault. This southern grape variety produces here a red wine for spring and summer, designed to be drunk for its fruit, with a supple, fresh, and immediately appealing expression. Available information indicates a gentle vinification, with indigenous yeasts, gravity work, mostly destemmed grapes, and maceration of about two and a half weeks. The 8-month aging is mainly in stainless steel tanks to preserve aromatic brightness, with a small proportion of barrels that provide slight support without marking the wine. This choice perfectly matches the identity of Cinsault, a grape capable of offering fine, juicy, and delicately spiced reds when not over-extracted. The 2025 vintage gives Pur C a gourmand and fluid expression, carried by the freshness of the limestone soils and well-controlled fruit ripeness. The result is a sincere, precise, and very accessible red wine, but endowed with a true terroir personality.
On tasting, Clos de la Barthassade Pur C 2025 reveals a bright nose of red fruits, with notes of strawberry, raspberry, fresh cherry, and a floral touch evoking elderflower. Aeration may bring out nuances of garrigue, mild pepper, and light spices, without ever weighing down the fruit expression. On the palate, the wine is supple, juicy, and very digestible, with a fluid texture and delicate tannins. Freshness remains well present, giving the whole a thirst-quenching sensation and a clean, fruity, and slightly spicy finish. Served slightly chilled around 14°C, it fully reveals its convivial character and natural balance. Pur C 2025 will ideally accompany an aperitif, grilled dishes, roasted poultry, a tuna steak on the barbecue, Mediterranean vegetables, or even a strawberry-rhubarb tart for a more original pairing. It will be enjoyed in its youth, while being able to evolve a few years in the cellar thanks to its balance and freshness.
