Château LAMOTHE BERGERON 1942

Long considered one of the most important Cru Bourgeois of the 19th century, Château Lamothe-Bergeron is a benchmark domain in Haut-Médoc. Its prestige comes from the agronomist Jacques de Bergeron, a former parliamentarian who, from 1796, undertook trials of all kinds on the vine. We owe him in particular a grafting method called Bergeron long used in the Rhone valley.

Lamothe Bergeron, after having been the property of Mestrezat and then Crédit Agricole in the second century, is now in the hands of Cognac Mounier and Hardy, which extend the high ambitions nurtured by all the former owners. The vines occupy a beautiful gravel terroir in the town of Cussac-Fort-Médoc, between Margaux and Saint-Julien, with the Gironde estuary not far away and a grape variety dominated by Merlot.

1942 : A wet year, barely above average, which disappointed with the harshness of most of the wines. The red wines are full-bodied and quite tannic, reinforced by a fairly marked acidity. The sweet wines are very good, powerful and racy. A collector's wine
