NIEPOORT - Docil Riesling (mellow) 2017

The arrival of Dirk Niepoort on the family estate in 1987 marked a real break for this historic house which has belonged to the Niepoort family for 5 generations. Like many Quintas, the estate did not have any vines and was content to produce wines, mainly Ports. Since then, the Niepoort family has acquired 2 Quintas (Nápoles and Carril) located in Cima Corgo, the most prestigious wine region in the Douro Valley. La Quinta de Nápoles, on the left bank of the Tedo River, covers approximately 30 hectares. Acquired in 1988, Quinta Do Carril, is located next to Quinta de Nápoles and covers 9 hectares. Today, Dirk Niepoort also produces wines in the regions of Bairrada, Dão, Vinho Verde and Jerez with the same concern for respecting the terroir.

Dócil is the fruit of the desire to produce a vinho verde ('green wine') that mirrors the region, balanced and complete, whose vinification is based entirely on vibrant acidity and the Loureiro grape. From the Lima Valley, its place of origin, this wine comes from vines planted on granite soils. The aromatic profile of the Loureiro grape is very marked, with a predominance of fresh floral aromas.
