Clos Larrouyat - Comet 2025
Clos Larrouyat is one of the most unique and sought-after estates in Jurançon. Located in Gan, at the foot of the Pyrenees, Maxime and Lucie Salharang cultivate a tiny vineyard of about three hectares inherited from Maxime's grandfather. The estate has established itself in a few years through a very personal interpretation of the appellation, based on freshness, tension, and great precision on the palate. The vines face east, protecting them from the excesses of the setting sun and allowing moderate alcohol levels. This location gives rise to wines of great energy, marked by natural acidity, salinity, and remarkable digestibility. Comet 2025 represents the estate's most ambitious and profound cuvée, with a denser expression than Météore. It is a rare dry Jurançon, vibrant and crafted for lovers of great characterful whites.
The Comet 2025 cuvée is made from Petit Manseng and Camaralet, two emblematic and precious grape varieties from the Pyrenean foothills. Petit Manseng brings density, aromatic depth, and sharp acidity that gives the wine its backbone. Camaralet, a much rarer grape, complements the blend with floral, spicy, and slightly exotic notes. The terroir of Triassic marls and pebbles from the Ossau valley provides a strong mineral tension that naturally balances the richness of the fruit. Comet stands out from Météore by offering more breadth, flesh, and persistence while maintaining the estate's very straight signature. The aging in several wine barrels adds a subtle patina without masking the fruit's brightness or the wine's freshness. The 2025 vintage should offer an intense, saline, and deeply gastronomic interpretation of this already very exclusive cuvée.
In the glass, Clos Larrouyat Comet 2025 reveals a broad, taut, and luminous profile. The nose evokes candied lemon, fresh pineapple, peach, quince, white flowers, and a touch of sweet spices. The palate is both dense and very energetic, with a broader texture than a classic dry Jurançon. The natural acidity of Petit Manseng provides great length, while the finish reveals marked salinity, noble bitterness, and a very persistent stony sensation. It is a gastronomic dry white capable of combining power, freshness, and great precision. It will ideally accompany scallops, a noble fish, creamy poultry, sheep cheese, citrus cuisine, mild curry, or a dish featuring fine spices. Serve around 10 to 12°C in a large glass after slight aeration, or cellar for a few years to allow the wine to gain complexity.
