Mansengs 2024 from Domaine Lajibe is a vibrant dry white wine that continues the exploration of mansengs initiated by Jean Baptiste Semmartin in the Pyrenean foothills, outside the strict framework of the appellation to gain freedom of style. This French wine comes from a selection of plots located at altitude, on soils mixing clay, sandstone, and pebbles, where both gros and petit manseng benefit from a ventilated climate and cool nights that preserve their natural acidity. The estate, managed with organic and biodynamic farming, claims highly precise viticulture, with measured yields, manual harvesting, and a low-intervention approach in the cellar to allow the grape's energy to express itself. The 2024 vintage, marked by beautiful brightness but without excessive heat, allowed for slow and steady ripening, producing grapes that are both concentrated and perfectly balanced. Mansengs thus presents itself as a free interpretation of the emblematic grape varieties of Jurançon, with a more immediate and gourmand profile, but always driven by a pronounced mineral tension. On the nose, Mansengs 2024 develops an expressive bouquet of fresh citrus fruits—lemon, grapefruit, and kumquat—complemented by notes of crunchy white fruits, juicy apple, and pear, with an exotic touch evoking pineapple and passion fruit. Nuances of white flowers, verbena, and fine spices add extra complexity, while a slight smoky and stony background recalls the Pyrenean anchoring of the plots. On the palate, the attack is straight and lively, supported by a bright acidity that structures the body and immediately lengthens the wine. The mid-palate combines density and fluidity, with flavors of juicy fruits, citrus peels, grapefruit zest, and a marked salinity that signifies the terroir and enhances the gastronomic character of the cuvée. The aging, precise and discreet, aims more to polish the texture than to impose a woody imprint, allowing the texture to unfold with a slightly glyceric touch but never heavy. The finish is long, savory, supported by noble bitters and a persistent freshness sensation, naturally inviting to the table. Mansengs 2024 will find ideal pairings with grilled or lightly seared fish, ceviches and fish tartares, sashimis, but also slightly spiced Asian-inspired cuisine, where its tension and salinity will shine. It will also pair very well with aged sheep's milk cheeses from the Southwest, balancing their richness with its liveliness and mineral relief. This dry white has real aging potential over a few years, during which it will develop more honeyed and spicy nuances without losing its fresh structure. Clos des Millésimes Bordeaux highlights Mansengs 2024 within a sharp selection dedicated to terroir wines and rare cuvées, showcasing the precise work of Domaine Lajibe and the uniqueness of the mansengs. This bottle is aimed at lovers of vibrant, distinctive whites with great drinkability, capable of shining both at a grand table and in blind tasting.

Domaine Lajibe - Mansengs 2024

Mansengs 2024 from Domaine Lajibe reveals a bright, precise, and intensely aromatic expression of the iconic white grape varieties of the Basque Country. The pale gold, shiny and clear color announces a vibrant and luminous wine. The nose opens with an intense bouquet blending fresh lemon, pink grapefruit, white peach, and juicy pear, with subtle notes of discreet pineapple, white flowers, and fine mountain herbs in the background. This generous aromatic profile remains very pure, without apparent sweetness, supported by a natural tension that brings uprightness and energy. The palate, with a frank attack, unfolds a juicy texture, carried by a ripe acidity that stretches the fruit with precision. The finish, long and salivating, combines salinity, citrus, and a noble bitterness reminiscent of lemon zest, giving the wine admirable relief.

With aeration, Mansengs 2024 gains complexity and reveals nuances of anise, wild fennel, star anise, fresh almond, and hawthorn flowers. The texture becomes slightly broader but still guided by a tangy backbone that ensures freshness and harmony. The gentle vinification with slow pressing, natural fermentations, and aging in tanks and large neutral containers allow the wine to maintain great aromatic precision without any heaviness. The Lajibe style is fully expressed: purity, tension, mastery, and an extremely clear reading of the Basque terroir. This 2024 vintage asserts a just balance between fruit ripeness and crystalline freshness, delivering a modern, fine, vibrant, and immediately appealing white wine.

Mansengs 2024 shines through its gastronomic versatility. It ideally accompanies grilled fish, trout or roasted monkfish, shellfish, scallops, or a citrus ceviche. Its freshness and saline framework also make it a perfect companion for refined plant-based cuisine: white asparagus, braised fennel, peppery artichokes, crunchy green vegetables, or herbaceous risottos. It also pairs beautifully with young sheep’s milk cheeses, which it highlights with its aromatic brightness. Served around 10 to 12 °C, it unfolds all its precision, intensity, and purity. Already delicious for its energy and vibrant fruit, it also has potential for a few years of aging, then gaining notes of light honey, dried fruits, and herbal infusions. It is a wine of identity, vibrant and deeply sincere, confirming Domaine Lajibe’s mastery in expressing the Mansengs.
