Giulia Negri - Pian delle Mole - Langhe Nebbiolo 2024
Giulia Negri is one of those estates that particularly seduces us in the cellar, due to the precision of its wines and this very personal way of interpreting the great terroirs of La Morra. Located in Serradenari, on the heights of the Langhe, she works a high-altitude vineyard where Nebbiolo gains brightness, finesse, and natural tension. The place is unique, both open to the landscapes of Piedmont and marked by a mosaic of soils that gives the wines a very precise identity. Pian delle Mole fits into this sensitive approach, with the idea of offering a pure, direct, and refined reading of Nebbiolo. Less solemn than a Barolo, but carried by the same demand for cultivation and vinification, this Langhe Nebbiolo 2024 constitutes a superb entry point into the estate's universe. One finds here an almost Burgundian inspiration in the search for delicacy, without ever losing the deeply Piedmontese accent of the wine. It is a cuvée of charm, freshness, and transparency, ideal for discovering Giulia Negri's luminous style.
The Pian delle Mole 2024 cuvée is made exclusively from Nebbiolo, the emblematic grape of Piedmont and the backbone of the great reds of the Langhe. The grapes come from La Morra, in the Serradenari area, at about 500 meters altitude, with a northern exposure that favors slow ripening and preserves aromatic elegance. The Messinian soil with sandy-clay texture brings a fine, floral, and slender expression, far from overly massive or excessively extracted Nebbiolo. The harvest is done manually, respecting a fragile fruit that requires precision and delicacy. Spontaneous fermentation in steel, accompanied by a maceration of about 20 days, allows preserving the purity of the grape variety while building a serious structure. The aging of about 18 months, shared between steel and 60 hl truncated cone vats, refines the wine without marking it with heavy oak. In the 2024 vintage, this approach highlights a Nebbiolo of finesse, fruit, and freshness, with a particularly digestible expression.
In the glass, Giulia Negri Pian delle Mole Langhe Nebbiolo 2024 reveals a clear and luminous robe, faithful to the natural elegance of Nebbiolo. The nose opens on red cherry, raspberry, fresh rose, and violet, with fine nuances of blood orange, black tea, and delicate spices. The palate is slender, energetic, and very expressive, carried by a lively acidity that gives the wine its relief and great drinkability. The tannins are present but fine, drawing a precise structure without rigidity. The whole seduces by its balance between the immediacy of the fruit and the depth of the terroir, with a floral, slightly earthy, and subtly balsamic finish. This Langhe Nebbiolo can be drunk young after slight aeration, while gaining harmony over a few years in the cellar. It will perfectly accompany tajarin with sage butter, vitello tonnato, roasted poultry, mushroom risotto, grilled white meat, or aged cheese.
