Porto di Mola - Galluccio Rosso 2023
Porto di Mola is an estate located in Galluccio, in the province of Caserta, in northern Campania. The property is set in a unique landscape marked by the slopes of the ancient Roccamonfina volcano, where the vine finds light, well-drained soils deeply linked to the geological history of the region. This territory remains relatively unknown compared to the more famous Campanian appellations, but it offers a strong identity, between volcanic relief, Mediterranean climate, and altitude freshness. Porto di Mola highlights the traditional grape varieties of the region, notably Falanghina for whites and Aglianico for reds. Galluccio Rosso 2023 expresses this red facet of inner Campania, with a style that is both fruity, structured, and accessible. The Galluccio DOP appellation here provides a precise framework for a volcanic terroir wine, rooted in an ancient tradition but crafted with a modern and friendly approach. This cuvée allows discovering Aglianico from a softer and more immediate angle than some of the more austere expressions from southern Italy.
The Galluccio Rosso 2023 cuvée is made from Aglianico, the major red grape variety of Campania and more broadly southern Italy. On the slopes of Roccamonfina, this grape finds an interesting balance between Mediterranean ripeness, natural freshness, and mineral character. The volcanic soils bring a savory dimension to the wine, a certain depth, and tension that avoids any heaviness. Porto di Mola seeks here a frank, fruity, and expressive red, capable of accompanying the table without requiring long aging. The vinification emphasizes the freshness of the fruit and the clarity of the grape variety, with a measured structure and accessible tannins. The 2023 vintage produces a wine with a gourmand profile, marked by black fruit, spices, and a sensation of suppleness on the palate. The whole remains faithful to the spirit of Galluccio: a Campanian red with character, but designed for immediate pleasure.
In the glass, Porto di Mola Galluccio Rosso 2023 reveals a ruby red robe with slightly purplish reflections. The nose opens on black cherry, plum, blackberry, and some violet notes, with a touch of sweet spices and volcanic earth. The palate is fresh, fruity, and balanced, supported by a tannic structure that is present but well integrated. Aglianico brings its natural depth without hardening the wine, making the tasting pleasant from its youth. The finish extends the fruit with slightly peppery, mineral, and Mediterranean nuances. This red will pair very well with pasta in tomato sauce, a Neapolitan pizza, Italian cold cuts, grilled meats, eggplant parmigiana, or semi-aged cheeses. Serve around 16 to 18°C, after a short aeration, to fully enjoy its fruity brightness and volcanic relief.
