Extravagant by Doisy-Daëne 2010
Located in the heart of the Barsac-Sauternes appellation, Château Doisy-Daëne is one of the most emblematic crus of the Bordeaux vineyard. Classified as Second Growth in the 1855 classification, the estate has belonged since the beginning of the 20th century to the Dubourdieu family, whose reputation for producing great dry and sweet white wines extends far beyond the borders of Bordeaux. The clay-limestone gravel terroir gives the wines remarkable finesse and tension, while the particular microclimate favors the development of noble rot (Botrytis cinerea), essential to the magic of great Sauternes and Barsac. The wines of Doisy-Daëne are distinguished by their elegance, their balance between richness and freshness, and their exceptional aging potential.
Created in 1990 by Denis Dubourdieu, the L'Extravagant cuvée from Doisy-Daëne embodies the most extreme and rarest expression of the estate. The result of an ultra-rigorous plot selection and meticulous sorting of the most botrytized berries, it is only produced in tiny quantities during exceptional vintages. The 2010 vintage was particularly favorable for the creation of this cuvée thanks to ideal climatic conditions: slow ripening, alternating morning fog and sunny afternoons, favoring optimal development of noble rot. The 2010 Extravagant is thus the purest and most concentrated expression of Doisy-Daëne's unique style, a wine for meditation and collectors.
The color is an intense gold with amber highlights, dense and luminous. The nose, strikingly complex, reveals aromas of candied fruit (apricot, mango, roasted pineapple), enhanced with notes of acacia honey, saffron, quince paste and oriental spices. On the palate, the texture is sumptuous, creamy, almost syrupy, but beautifully balanced by a sharp acidity that brings freshness and length. The flavors of exotic fruits and candied citrus unfold in successive layers, supported by a crystalline minerality specific to the Barsac terroir. The interminable finish combines power, elegance and aromatic purity, leaving an unforgettable impression. The Extravagant 2010 is a masterful wine, intended for the greatest tasting moments and promising to be kept for several decades.
