The Lamothe family, current owners, have been present in Preignac since the end of the 18th century and have managed Haut-Bergeron for 5 generations. Patrick and Hervé currently run the estate and assume the responsibilities of cellar master and head of culture.Partly contiguous to Yquem , the 17 ha vineyard which extends over the municipalities of Sauternes , Bommes and Preignac, has been greatly extended over the past 60 years. It is made up of a very large number of carefully selected plots(close to 80), immediately offering a very wide range of possibilities.
The soils are clay and gravel and, in Bommes, clay and limestone. The grape variety consists of Sémillon (90%), Sauvignon (58%) and Muscadelle (2%). The average age of the vines is 60 years. The soil is worked in the traditional way and the amendments made from organic matter.Besides Haut-Bergeron, the estate produces a second wine in Sauternes(Château Fontebride) and a third wine (Grand Piquey) as well as several dry white wines.
