The Léglise family, originally from Libourne, is at the origin of Château L'Évangile. It participates actively in the mid-eighteenth century to the constitution of the vineyard of Pomerol. The Gospel then appears on the cadastres of 1741 under the name of Fazilleau. At the turn of the nineteenth century, the area is already in a configuration close to today with an area of about 13 ha when it is assigned to a lawyer called Isambert. This one 'baptizes' the domain of the name of the Gospel. In 1862, The Gospel is bought by Paul Chaperon whose heirs, the Ducasse family, will remain owners until 1990. Paul Chaperon will establish the reputation of the field and build the home of the Second Empire style of the Gospel. From the second edition of Cocks Féret in 1868, The Gospel is listed and considered a "Premier Cru Haut-Pomerol".
At the death of Paul Chaperon around 1900, his descendants will drive the property until Louis Ducasse in 1957 which takes over the property in decline and strongly affected by the frost of 1956. It will successfully renew the vineyard and restore the rank of the Gospel. From 1982, his widow, Simone Ducasse, will ensure family continuity.
In 1990, the Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) acquired The Gospel of the Ducasse family, anxious to ensure continuity of care and continuity. The influence of DBR (Lafite) is reflected first of all by a more refined selection of the great wine and the creation of the Blason of L'Évangile as the second wine. The effort also concerns the health of the vines with a restoration and partial renewal plan started in 1998. The complete renovation of the vat and cellars completed in 2004 allowed the estate to finalize its new configuration.
