GLENMORANGIE - Nectar d'Or - 12 ans - 46%
Glenmorangie is located north of the town of Tain in Ross-shire, in the Highland region of Scotland. The establishment was a brewery before being redeveloped as a distillery in 1843. Glenmorangie was one of the first leaders in the export of its whisky, particularly to the United-States and the distillery had to close between 1931 and 1936 because of the effects of prohibition. Today, the distillery belongs to the Glenmorangie Company, a subsidiary of LVMH. Its six wash stills and six spirit stills produce around 6 million litres per year, which also makes it one of the largest distilleries.
Each expression is aged in white oak barrels from Glenmorangie's own forest in the Ozarks of Missouri, United States. The barrels are then rented to Jack Daniel's and Heaven Hill to store their Bourbon before being shipped to Scotland. Glenmorangie was one of the first distilleries to experiment with different wood finishes for its whiskies, where they receive a second period of maturation in a different type of barrel.
The Nectar d’Or (Golden Nectar) matures in American oak bourbon barrels and is then aged in Sauternes casks for at least 12 years.
