Domaine Balazu des Vaussières - Arnica Blanc 2019
Domaine Balazu des Vaussières is located in Tavel, in the south of the Rhône Valley. It has belonged to Nadia and Christian Charmasson since 1986. Most of the wines are classified under the Vin de France appellation since the AOC Tavel only allows the production of rosé wines. The 5-hectare vineyard extends over Tavel and Lirac, and is carried out in certified biodynamic agriculture. Their terroir is made up of four different types of soil: rolled pebbles, clay soils, sandy soils and soils covered with slate (flat limestone stones on clay islands). In the vines as in the cellar, they implement natural practices and minimal interventions, with long aging. Nadia and Christian Charmasson do not use any sulfur and other additives in the wine, and refuse to use copper sulphate in the vines.
The Arnica 2019 cuvée is a blend of Grenache, Roussanne, Viognier, Clairette, Marsanne and Bourboulenc. 2019 was a very dry year, which limited production to just 500 bottles produced. This natural wine is spritzy; wine tasters at the Domaine have compared it to an amber beer!
