Château MAUCAILLOU 1964
Château Maucaillou is located in Moulis-en-Médoc, in the Bordeaux region. The Petit-Laroche family, wine merchant in the 19th century, built in 1871 the cellars and warehouses of Moulis, in the geographical center of Haut-Médoc. In 1875, J. Petit-Laroche married and offered his wife as a wedding gift the construction of a beautiful mansion opposite its Medoc cellars: the current Château. Simultaneously, J. Petit-Laroche created in the places known as “Maucaillou” and “Caubet”, on a hectare and a half, a new vineyard which will take the name of Château Maucaillou. "Maucaillou" means "bad pebbles", as understood by farmers in the Middle Ages, because this kind of gravely plot of land was unsuitable for any grain cultivation, the main source of survival at the time. Subsequently, we realized that these gravel ridges were a favorite terroir for high-expression vineyards. The Château now belongs to the Dourthe family.
Château Maucaillou is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. The wine is aged in barrels.
