Domaine Oratoire Saint Martin - Les P'tits Gars 2020
Domaine de l'Oratoire Saint Martin is located in Cairanne, in the Rhône Valley. Winemakers from father to son for 300 years, ten generations have succeeded on the same vineyard since André Alary in 1692. Frédéric and François Alary took over the operation in 1984 and operate 25 hectares on the slopes of Saint Martin including the oratory, built in the middle of the vineyards, which gave the name to the domain. Most of the estate is located north-east of the town of Cairanne, 200 meters above sea level on steep hills in an area commonly called "the mountain", in the Les Douyes and Saint Martin districts. The vines are worked without pesticides, without chemical fertilizers and without weedkillers, the soil is worked entirely mechanically on the old vines to bury the organic compost (sheep manure) and promote deep root development. All this work has been carried out for decades in order to promote the microbial life of the soil and respect the typicality of the terroir. The estate is certified in organic farming and biodynamics.
Les P’tits Gars Rouge is a blend of Grenache and Syrah, cultivated on clay-limestone soil and the vines of which are around 30 years old. The harvest is manual, with sorting of the grapes, destemming and vatting for 8 days. The wine is aged for 8 months in vats.
