Château CERTAN DE MAY DE CERTAN 1997
Château Certan de May is located in the Pomerol appellation, on the right bank of Bordeaux. The De May (or Demay) family is said to be of Scottish origin, but has lived in France since the Middle Ages and in Pomerol since the late 1500s. The family becomes master of the fiefdom of Sertan, the oldest vineyard in the commune. This area also covered the modern vineyards of Vieux Château Certan and Château Certan-Giraud (since renamed Château Hosanna), but was broken up after the French Revolution. Since the death of the last member of the De May family in 1925, the estate has belonged to the Barreau-Badar family . The owner Jean-Luc Barreau puts all his attention to produce a wine in the great tradition of his ancestors. The wines are vinified under the direction of renowned consultants Michel Rolland until 2012 and Jean-Claude Berrouet since the 2013 vintage.
Château Certan de May is a predominantly Merlot blend, supplemented with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon . The wine is aged for 16 to 20 months in oak barrels, 80% of which are new.
Grapes: Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon
