Château LA FLEUR PETRUS 1996
Château La Fleur-Pétrus is located in the Pomerol appellation, on the right bank of Bordeaux. The property was purchased by Jean-Pierre Moueix in 1953, but was largely replanted after the frosts of 1956. The property was extended in 1994 after the purchase of vines (and a bastide built in 1782) in Château Le Gay and again in 2012 with the purchase of land near Château Le Pin. The heart of the vineyard is located opposite Château Pétrus and adjacent to Château Lafleur. This site has more gravel than its neighbors, which has a role in the refined style of the wine.
Château La Fleur-Pétrus is a blend of Merlot (around 90%), Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot . The wine is aged for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels, around 50% of which are new. The 1996 vintage is considered an excellent vintage in Pomerol. The winter was mild and the spring warm, with the month of March bringing significant heat. May was cool and warmed up again in June before dropping again in early July. In late July-early August, temperatures recovered before cooler temperatures set in towards the end of the month. A hot and dry September contributed to the ripening of the grapes.
