Château LA GRAVE TRIGANT DE BOISSET 1998
Château La Grave is located in the Pomerol appellation, on the right bank of Bordeaux. The origin of Château La Grave dates back to the 19th century, when it belonged to the Trigant de Boisset family. As its name suggests, the terroir of Château La Grave is made up of almost pure gravel, marking the beginning of a long gravelly strip that extends to Saint-Émilion. It was acquired by Christian Moueix in 1971 and today extends over 8 hectares.
Château La Grave is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc . The wine is aged for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels, around 40% of which are new. In 1998 , the spring was cool and flowering was a real success, but the weather warmed up during the summer, with August becoming very hot and dry. The intense heat caused many grapes and vine foliage to suffer from heat stress and sunburn. September was dry until heavy rain fell at the end of the month and rot became a serious problem in October. However, the quality of Merlot-dominant wines from Saint-Emilion and Pomerol has been so high that they are recognized not only as the most outstanding wines of the vintage, but also as some of the finest expressions since 1990.
