Château LA LOUVIÈRE 1995
Château La Louvière is located in Pessac-Léognan , in the Bordeaux wine region. The castle's history dates back to the 14th century and there were successive owners until 1965 when it was purchased by its current owners, the Lurton family . The La Louvière vineyard covers 86 hectares. The vines are around 25-30 years old and sit on the classic gravelly soils although La Louvière also has additional limestone deposits in the soil down the slope.
Château La Louvière is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot . The wine is aged for 12 months in barrels, of which 40 to 50% are new. For Bordeaux, the 1995 vintage is widely recognized as an excellent year . Winter and spring were mild, although the rain in the spring was crucial in rebalancing the water table, and flowering was uninterrupted. The summer was so hot and dry that it broke records. The harvest, which took place in dry and sunny conditions, was abundant and healthy.
