Château ROC DE CAMBES 1990
Château Roc de Cambes is located in the Côtes de Bourg appellation, in Bordeaux . The Château was purchased in 1988 by François and Emilie Mitjavile , who also owned Château Le Tetre-Rôteboeuf in Saint-Emilion. It produces a Bordeaux blended wine based on Merlot and a Second Wine (Domaine de Cambes) sold under the Bordeaux AOC appellation. The vineyard extends over 12 hectares and the vines, planted on deep clay-limestone soils, are around 50 years old.
Roc de Cambes is made predominantly from Merlot , with a smaller proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec . It is vinified in concrete vats at a controlled temperature before aging in barrels in French oak barrels, 50% of which are new , for 24 months . The 1990 vintage in Bordeaux has a legendary reputation. The winter was mild and turned into a cool spring with temperatures only warming up in May. The months of July and August broke heat records. Rains in late August and early September brought welcome relief and conditions for the rest of the month were cool and clear, ideal for an early harvest.
Grapes: 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Malbec
