Rotem & Mounir Saouma - Cuvée Inopia Rouge 2019
Rotem & Mounir Saouma are located in Châteauneuf-du-Pape , in the southern Rhône Valley. The eponymous team also owns Lucien Le Moine, a small négociant-éleveur in Burgundy. The latter was founded in the late 1990s. By the mid-2000s, they had wanted to vinify their own terroir, but finding vineyard plots is very difficult in Burgundy and they also wanted to avoid competing directly with partner producers and friends. They therefore turned to the Châteauneuf-du-Pape region, which was also not an easy option: their strategy was to work with SAFER, the government-run land sales intermediary, and to focus on plots that no one else wanted. Even though the nine plots they bought were often in a deplorable state, they were able to access vineyards in very good locations. Today, they own 8.4 hectares in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and more in the Côtes du Rhône-Villages appellation.
Inopia Rouge is composed mainly of Grenache Noir, complemented by Mourvèdre, Counoise, Syrah and Cinsault . After a cold maceration in whole bunches, the wine is aged for 18 months on lees in demi-muid, foudre and concrete egg .
