In Puisseguin-Saint-Émilion, Château La Vaisinerie is part of the satellite appellations of Saint-Émilion, on terroirs where Merlot finds particularly favorable conditions for a broad and generous expression. The vineyard benefits from clay-limestone dominant soils, capable of preserving freshness while supporting complete ripening of the grapes. The estate produces wines in a classic right bank style, where fruit, smooth texture, and depth play a central role. Merlot naturally dominates the blend, complemented by Cabernet Franc, which brings more tension and aromatic complexity. The warm and early 2020 vintage produced ripe grapes rich in substance on these terroirs, yet capable of maintaining beautiful energy when balance was well controlled. This combination is particularly suited to the style of Puisseguin-Saint-Émilion, which often combines fruit generosity and limestone freshness. Château La Vaisinerie 2020 thus presents an accessible yet structured profile, with enough depth to evolve for several more years.
The blend is mainly based on Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc. Merlot provides a fleshy and velvety body, marked by black plum, blackberry, and ripe cherry. Cabernet Franc enhances the balance with more floral and spicy notes as well as a straighter structure on the finish. The grapes are vinified to preserve the brightness of the fruit while building a tannic framework precise enough to support the natural richness of the vintage. Aging helps soften the structure and gradually integrate fruity, spicy, and woody nuances. The sunny character of 2020 gives the wine a beautiful concentration without necessarily sacrificing freshness, thanks to the presence of clay-limestone soils. The wine is currently in a still young but already accessible phase, with a supple texture and well-present fruit.
The color shows a deep garnet with still strong ruby highlights. The nose opens on blackberry, black plum, and cherry, accompanied by violet, licorice, and sweet spices. With aeration, notes of cocoa, cedar, and a slight touch of undergrowth gradually appear. The palate is ample and supple, supported by ripe tannins that provide structure without harshness. Merlot dominates the mid-palate with a generous texture, while Cabernet Franc brings more freshness and extends the finish. The finish remains clear and persistent on black fruits, spices, and a discreet mineral sensation. Château La Vaisinerie 2020 will accompany duck breast, rack of lamb, beef fillet, roast veal with mushrooms, or seasonal dishes featuring porcini mushrooms.
