Château CHEVAL BLANC 2008
At the border of Saint-Émilion and Pomerol, Château Cheval Blanc occupies a deeply unique terroir within the right bank of Bordeaux. Its vineyard forms a complex mosaic of gravel, clay, and sandier soils, allowing a very precise planting of Cabernet Franc and Merlot. This geological diversity is one of the foundations of Cheval Blanc's style, capable of combining depth, aromatic finesse, and remarkable freshness. Historically, Cabernet Franc holds an exceptional place for Saint-Émilion and brings to the wine its floral, spicy, and slender dimension. Merlot completes this structure with its fleshiness, velvety texture, and fruit richness. First Grand Cru Classé “A” at the time of the 2008 vintage, the estate was already among the absolute references of the appellation. In a year marked by slow ripening and a favorable late season, Cheval Blanc 2008 stands out for its classicism, precision, and an elegance that fully asserts itself with aging.
Château Cheval Blanc 2008 blends 54% Cabernet Franc and 46% Merlot. The slight majority of Cabernet Franc gives the wine a particularly refined structure, with aromatic freshness and tension that runs throughout the tasting. Merlot provides a more enveloping body in counterpoint and gives more depth to the mid-palate. The parcel selection allows assembling the different expressions of the vineyard according to their maturity and unique personality. Vinifications are conducted with particular attention to the finesse of extractions to preserve the characteristic mouthfeel of the cru. Barrel aging then gradually supports the structure and refines the tannins without masking the identity of the grape varieties. After nearly twenty years of evolution, the 2008 enters a particularly interesting maturity phase while retaining enough energy to continue its development.
Today, the color shows a deep garnet with slightly evolved ruby reflections. The bouquet combines black cherry, plum, and blackcurrant with nuances of violet, graphite, and fine spices. With aeration, notes of cedar, blond tobacco, truffle, and undergrowth appear, indicating harmonious evolution. The palate is distinguished by a silky texture and great precision, with fine tannins now perfectly integrated. Cabernet Franc imparts a sensation of freshness, uprightness, and persistence, while Merlot retains a broad and velvety fruit core. The finish is long and complex, blending black fruits, dried flowers, spices, graphite, and tertiary nuances. Château Cheval Blanc 2008 will accompany roasted pigeon, beef fillet with porcini mushrooms, veal with morels, rack of lamb, or refined cuisine centered around black truffle.
