Clos de la Barthassade - Cuvée H 2025
Clos de la Barthassade has established itself in just a few years as one of the most interesting estates in Aniane, in the Languedoc, at the heart of an area marked by the influence of the Terrasses du Larzac. Founded by Hélène and Guillaume Baron, the estate cultivates a vineyard of about 11 hectares in a Mediterranean environment where temperature variations and soil diversity allow the production of red wines that are both expressive and balanced. The property emphasizes organic viticulture, complemented by biodynamic inspiration aimed at preserving soil life and plant quality. Manual work plays an important role in this approach, with a desire to respect the natural ripeness of the grapes and the identity of each plot. In this region sometimes associated with powerful wines, Clos de la Barthassade seeks more finesse, freshness, and fruit precision. This approach gives rise to accessible yet serious cuvées, capable of expressing the sunny character of the Languedoc without excessive heaviness. The Cuvée H 2025 perfectly illustrates this balance between indulgence, delicate structure, and Mediterranean energy.
The Cuvée H 2025 is a blend of Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Grenache, three major grape varieties from southern France, united here in a supple, tasty, and sincere red expression. Syrah dominates the blend and brings aromatic depth, notes of black fruits, olive, and spices, while Mourvèdre contributes to the structure and Grenache rounds out the texture. The 10-month aging is mostly done in stainless steel tanks to preserve the freshness of the fruit, with a smaller portion in barrels that support the body without imposing marked oakiness. This aging choice fits well with the spirit of the cuvée, designed to offer an immediate, lively, and balanced Languedoc red wine. The 2025 vintage offers a generous expression, supported by a deep color, aromas of black olive tapenade, black fruits, and spices. The palate remains silky, with a delicate structure and a finish marked by a pleasant saline sensation. The Cuvée H 2025 thus stands out for its balance between immediate pleasure, winemaking accuracy, and terroir personality.
On tasting, the Clos de la Barthassade Cuvée H 2025 reveals a deep, expressive, and very indulgent red. The nose evokes blackberry, blackcurrant, black cherry, black olive tapenade, garrigue herbs, and soft spices. Aeration may reveal notes of pepper, licorice, thyme, and a slightly smoky touch, typical of a well-mastered Mediterranean blend. On the palate, the wine is supple, velvety, and precise, with fine tannins that support the body without weighing it down. The finish retains a nice freshness, carried by a saline sensation that balances the ripe fruit and prolongs the tasting. This cuvée will ideally accompany grilled red meats, lamb skewers, barbecue, Mediterranean herb cuisine, or lightly spiced Asian dishes. It will be enjoyed young, around 16°C, while also being able to evolve for a few years in the cellar.
