Domaine Jacques Frédéric Mugnier - Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées 2023
Located at the Château de Chambolle-Musigny, Domaine Jacques Frédéric Mugnier distinguishes itself through its remarkably precise interpretation of the limestone soils of the Côte de Nuits. The acquisition of Clos de la Maréchale in 2003 marked a turning point with the expansion of the vineyard and confirmed a vision based on the purity of the fruit, the delicacy of the textures, and a deep respect for the terroir. This exacting standard is particularly evident at Chambolle, where the estate crafts wines of refined elegance.
The 2023 Les Fuées comes from a Premier Cru vineyard located directly adjacent to Bonnes Mares, at a comparable altitude, on a more mineral-rich soil than the average vineyard in the village. This terroir is distinguished by its earthy character and a base of black fruit, producing structured and profound wines without sacrificing the grace characteristic of Chambolle. Vinification involves a measured approach to preserve the integrity of the Pinot Noir and the expression of the cru.
The nose opens with raspberry and Morello cherry, joined by blackberry, peony petals, and a hint of sweet spice. With aeration, notes of graphite, wet stone, and orange peel affirm the mineral signature of Fuées. The palate presents a direct attack followed by a full and profound core. The chalky structure chisels the mid-palate where juicy red and black fruits mingle. The texture is silky and taut, supported by fine, tightly grained tannins. The finish is long, precise, and mouthwatering, with a return of cherry pit, white pepper, and a lingering flinty note that extends the finish.
At the table, this vintage pairs well with pink veal fillet, pigeon with chanterelles, free-range poultry with herbs, or black truffle risotto. It also complements grilled beef, glazed root vegetables, and soft, bloomy-rind cheeses such as a mature Brie de Meaux, which respects its delicate character.
