La Ferme des 7 Lunes - Halo sur le Baudet 2021
La Ferme des 7 Lunes with the cuvée Halo sur le Baudet 2021 is a deep Saint-Joseph red firmly rooted in the artisanal universe of Jean Delobre. Located in Bogy, Ardèche, in the northern part of the Rhône Valley, the estate is part of a family history long linked to mixed farming. Jean Delobre gradually left the cooperative logic to build a more personal path, focused on biodynamics, living soils, and low-intervention winemaking. This approach gives birth to sincere, digestible, and expressive wines that favor the energy of the fruit over technical demonstration. Halo sur le Baudet 2021 perfectly illustrates this philosophy with a Saint-Joseph Syrah that is both deep, fresh, and very lively. The 2021 vintage, cooler than the sunny years, highlights the tension, aromatic finesse, and mineral dimension of the terroir. It is a cuvée sought after by lovers of natural, elegant, and unadorned northern Rhône wines.
The cuvée is made exclusively from Syrah, the emblematic grape of Saint-Joseph reds. On the granitic slopes of the northern Rhône valley, Syrah finds here an expression that is spicy, floral, and deeply mineral. The harvest is done manually, with a search for just the right maturity to preserve the freshness and brightness of the fruit. Fermentations take place thanks to indigenous yeasts, in a gentle and non-interventionist winemaking logic. Extractions remain moderate to avoid any harshness and maintain a supple, fluid, and elegant texture. The wine is generally lightly filtered or unfiltered, with very limited sulfur addition when necessary. The result is a straight, lively, and expressive Saint-Joseph, supported by fine matter rather than excessive power.
In the glass, Halo sur le Baudet 2021 reveals a deep red color with still youthful purplish reflections. The nose opens on blackberry, violet, black raspberry, and pepper, with nuances of licorice, light smoke, and sweet spices. The palate is both velvety and dynamic, with fine, melted, and perfectly integrated tannins. The 2021 vintage brings remarkable freshness, which lengthens the wine and accentuates its digestible character. The finish prolongs the black fruits, floral notes, and a very salivating granite sensation. This Saint-Joseph can be enjoyed today after aeration, but it also has enough depth to evolve a few years in the cellar. It will ideally accompany duck breast, a rib steak, Provençal stew, roasted lamb, pigeon, grilled mushrooms, or a platter of aged cheeses.
