The Domaine de Lagravière, known since always for the quality of its soil, is bought at the end of the 18th century by the family of Count Hippolyte de Maurès de Malartic. A great servant of the kings of France, he fought as admiral against the English on many seas of the globe and distinguished himself in 1756 during the Battle of Quebec. The property was bought in 1850 by Madame Arnaud Ricard, who named the name of Malartic Lagravière in tribute to the former owners.
Removed and completed by a few small parcels, the estate acquires the appearance it will retain until the 1950s. The Marly family will be the last of the Ricard line to manage the Château. More specifically, Jacques Marly will take over the management of the estate in 1947 and will administer it until 1990.
Enjoying a great reputation since the beginning of the last century, Château Malartic-Lagravière is one of only six crus graded both white and red in the Graves classification of 1953. At the end of 1996, the Château takes a new course with the arrival of the Bonnie family.
