Château CANON 1974
Château Canon is located on a limestone terrace facing south-west which constitutes the majority of its surface. A quarter of the area is located on the slope of this hillside towards the Dordogne. This imposing mass of sedimentary rocks is crisscrossed by numerous galleries that testify to the exploitation of this building material since the 16th century. The site is 87 meters high.
The parcels of vines are grouped together in a group of 22 hectares which present very homogeneous soils of limestone with asterias covered with a weak layer of clay of lacustrine origin.
In 1760, the lieutenant of frigate and corsair with the same name - Jacques Kanon, native of Blayais - acquired the Domain of Saint-Martin thanks to the substantial profits of the races which he carried out on behalf of Louis XV at the expense of the British ships. He immediately undertook the construction of an elegant house in the neighbourhood of which he developed the monoculture of the vine on all these plot, a rare strategy at that time. Later in 1919, the Fournier family took over the reins of the castle before giving them to Chanel in 1996. Since that day, with an unalterable passion, everything is done to preserve the heritage of the founders.
