VIETTI - Barolo Castiglione Falletto 2014
Vietti is a wine producer from Piedmont in north-western Italy, located in the heart of the Langhe hills, at the top of the village of Castiglione Falletto. The estate created by Carlo Vietti has been around since the late 1800s but its reputation grew in the 1960s when Luciana Vietti married winemaker and art connoisseur Alfredo Currado. His insights into the production of one of the first Barolo cru (Rocche di Castiglione in 1961), through the single-grape vinification of Arneis (1967) to the invention of artist labels (1974) made him both the symbol and the architect of some of the most important revolutions of the time. The management of the vineyard was taken over by Luca Currado Vietti and his wife Elena, before being acquired in 2016 by Krause Holdings, allowing Luca and Elena, still at the head of the Vietti brand, to add a number of prized crus to the estate’s holdings. Vietti is particularly known for its range of Barolo plot wines, its Barberas, and also its association with the Arneis variety.
This Barolo Castiglione is made from Nebbiolo. The grapes are selected from small vineyards spread in the Barolo region. The vines are between 7 and 40 years old, planted in a clay-limestone soil. All the different crus are vinified and aged separately with slightly different processes to underline the singular characteristics of each parcel and terroir. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel with daily cap submersion for extraction of flavour and colour. The wine is aged for roughly 30 months in oak barrels; all parcels are then carefully blended before bottling.
Grape variety: 100% Nebbiolo
